Key Roles and Responsibilities

Assessment and planning:

• • Assess students’ academic, social, and behavioral needs. 
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student. 
  • Set specific, measurable goals for students and track their progress. 

Instruction and adaptation:

  • Teach basic skills to students with severe disabilities and modify lessons for those with mild to moderate disabilities. 

Collaboration and communication:

  • Advocate for students’ rights and ensure they receive necessary accommodations. 

Classroom management and support:

• • Manage classroom behavior, often using positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques. 
  • Help students develop social skills, self-confidence, and independence. 
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment. 

Professional development and compliance:

• • Stay current with best practices in special education. 
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state special education laws.
