Job Description

Role Purpose

The IB DP & IB MYP Language and Literature Teacher delivers inquiry-based, concept-driven instruction aligned with the International Baccalaureate philosophy. The role focuses on developing students’ analytical, communicative, and critical thinking skills through the study of literary and non-literary texts, while fostering global mindedness and academic integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with IB MYP and IB DP Language and Literature subject guides.

  • Design units using MYP Global Contexts, Key Concepts, and DP Areas of Exploration.

  • Integrate a range of literary and non-literary texts representing diverse cultures and perspectives.

  • Promote inquiry, discussion, close reading, and analytical writing.

Assessment and Feedback

  • Design and implement assessments aligned with MYP criteria (A–D) and DP assessment requirements.

  • Prepare students for DP Internal Assessments, including the Individual Oral and HL Essay (where applicable), and external assessments (Paper 1 and Paper 2).

  • Provide timely, criterion-referenced feedback to support student progress.

  • Maintain accurate assessment records and documentation.

Student Support

  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and language proficiency levels.

  • Support the development of ATL skills (MYP) and Approaches to Learning and Teaching (DP).

  • Foster independent learning, reflection, and academic honesty.

  • Monitor student progress and contribute to pastoral and academic mentoring.

IB Compliance and Collaboration

  • Maintain required IB documentation, including unit planners, assessment tasks, and reflections.

  • Participate in internal moderation, standardisation, and collaborative planning.

  • Contribute to interdisciplinary learning in the MYP and departmental initiatives.

Professional Development

  • Engage in ongoing IB professional development and reflective practice.

  • Stay informed about IB curriculum updates, assessment changes, and best practices.

  • Contribute to a culture of professional learning within the department and school.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree in English, Literature, Linguistics, or a related field.

  • Recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent).

  • IB MYP and/or IB DP training preferred.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of secondary-level teaching experience; IB experience is an advantage.
